USA Hockey has announced that 44 players who participated in the 2019 Women's National Festival have been chosen for the 2019 U.S. Under-18 and Under-22 Women's Select Teams that will compete in a pair of three-game series against Canada Aug. 14-17 in Lake Placid, New York.

The two U.S. Women’s Select Teams will feature 19 Minnesotans, including eight on the Under-18 team and eleven on the Under-22 team.

U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team

The 2019 U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team features 11 returning players from the 2019 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team that earned a silver medal at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Japan and is led by University of Minnesota Duluth head coach Maura Crowell.

“I think we had a really competitive camp this year” said Maura Crowell, head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team. “The overall talent was very high so we had some tough decisions to make. We have a great group of girls, lots of returners and a lot of new faces as well. The energy from the group is really great and we can’t wait to welcome Canada to Lake Placid.”

Minnesota natives Maggie Nicholson (Minnetonka), Skylar Vetter (Lakeville) and Audrey Wethington (Edina) are among the returning players from last year’s silver medal team. Joining them on the U.S. Under-18 Select Team this week will be Brenna Fuhrman (Farmington), Rory Guilday (Minnetonka), Peyton Hemp (Andover), Gabby Krause (Andover) and Danielle Burgen (Chisago Lakes), who was the only 2004 birth year to make the team.

A total 19 of the players selected to the Under-22 Women’s Select Team won a gold medal during the recent streak of four consecutive titles for the U.S. at the IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship. Barnes, Heise and Madeline Wethington (Edina, MN) are each three-time gold medalists at the event.

“This past week has been really great,” said Joel Johnson (White Bear Lake, MN), head coach of the U.S. Under-22 Select Team. “Our coaching staff and evaluation staff had a lot of tough decisions, but we’ve picked a group that we feel is going to lead us to success.”

11 Minnesota natives were selected for the U.S. Under-22 Select Team including Sydney Brodt (Mounds View), Emily Brown (Blaine), Heise, Gabby Hughes (Centennial), Patti Marshall (Buffalo), Presley Norby (Minnetonka), Emma Polusny (Mound), Natalie Snodgrass (Eastview), Taylor Wente (Maple Grove), Wethington and Grace Zumwinkle (Minnetonka).
